Mike Jepson

Update Aug 19, 2018:

Mike Jepson has passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones. We will always remember the tremendous contribution Mike made to NSTRA and our members. He was a true friend and a great man. Mike was known for his excellent dogs and handling style. For those of us who had a chance to spend even a moment with Mike, we will always know just how special he was.

To all,

Many of you know Mike Jepson with the Big Sky Region from Montana. He has been a regular at many of our trials over the years and has also judged our Region Elimination. He has been suffering with an illness over the past year and has now entered hospice care to help Mike and his family. Please send your prayers to Mike and his family.

A note from RM NSTRA Club President: Chris Cooperrider:

Hello all,

We have had a number of members who have shown interest in having a training day/mock trial day once a month throughout the winter. We are still working on the details, but basically it will be just set up as a mock trial scenario where handler’s will be able to train their dogs in a trial setting or individually if they choose. Handler’s will be able to choose if they want to run their dogs with or without a collar, individually or they can be braced against another dog with an experience level of their choosing. Handlers can run additional braces for just the cost of the birds and time permitting.

We will plan on doing something for lunch like brats/burgers, etc as well.
Our first training day will be Saturday October 28th at 10:00 am at Rocky Mountain Sporting Dog Club grounds in Hudson, Colorado. Everyone is invited and we encourage anyone who is interested in training/trialing to come out and join us.

Hello all, thank you to all who have entered this year’s Pike’s Peak trial. As most of you are aware, the trial filled in less than 15 minutes, which is incredible! Sorry for the delay in getting the draws finished but they are finally drawn and available on the NSTRA website.

We will be using the same fields as we did last year and the directions can be found on our here . There will not be any camping available at the fields but there are several campgrounds in the area within 5-15 minutes of the trial grounds. We have had an abundance of rain in the past month which has made for some nice cover in the fields.

Forecast as of 8/6/17
weather

Start times will be at 0730 each day. We will work around the occasional thunderstorms which have been showing up in the afternoons. Lunch will be available each day at the fields. The landowner has approved us to be on the fields Thursday afternoon but please remember no birds planted in the fields after 3pm on Thursday.

Thanks to everyone for coming and supporting our trial and a special thanks to those who have volunteered and agreed to help with judging, marshaling, scoring, setting the fields, and with meals. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 719-659-7361. Thanks again, Chris

2017HPPPT

This year we will continue the Pikes Peak Trial High Point award. The rules for 2017 Pikes Peak Trial-High Point Award will be as follows:

    1. Points will be awarded to each dogs first three runs. If a dog only has 2 runs during the trial then their 3rd score will be entered as a zero.

  1. In an effort to reward consistency, points will be awarded to each dog according to where they finished in each field they ran.
    Example: 1st place=32 points, 2nd place=31 points, 3rd place=30 points, down to 32nd place=1 point.

Rocky Mountain Regional Trial May 5-6, 2017

View Draw

Start Time: 8:00
The 2016/2017 Regional Elimination Trial and side trial are May 6-7, 2017. The 2016/2017 Regional Elimination Trial and side trial will be held at the north fields at Steel Fork Pheasants in Rush, CO on May 6/7. The trial will start at 0800. Our judges will be Mike Jepsen from Big Sky Region and Jason Norton who is the Mid North Region President. Our bird handler will be Hanna Jepsen who has planted numerous Regional trials. Our side trial judges will be Dave Dowers and Ron Horn. The side trial will be in the west field -the current B Field (42 acres) the Regional field ( 48acres) will be east of the current A Field. By doing this, the Regional field will have virgin cover and we will have a full 40 acre field between the Regional and side trial to prevent bird fly over and interference from outside dogs. We did get permission from NSTRA 1st Vice President Mikeal Mulberry to chip draw the side trial to avoid conflicting braces. I am planning on drawing the side trial on Friday May 5th at the clubhouse. The Regional entry fee will be $100.00 and the side trial brace will be $45.00.

We will move to the clubhouse at the end of the trial on Saturday to hold our annual membership meeting, election, and dinner. Dinner will be available after the meeting and we are planning on prime rib made by Rhonda and Rod. The cost of the dinner will be $20.00/person. We will also have a raffle to raise money for the region and to help offset the cost of the Regional. If you are able to bring something to donate for the raffle that would be appreciated.
